A double bill of two foundational works by Artistic Director CHENG Tsung-lung, Cloud Gate’s Blue Hour and Beckoning mark a shift in CHENG’s artistry, from quiet self-reflection to movement inspired by Taiwanese temple processions.

Derived from the French phrase l'heure bleue, Blue Hour refers to the fleeting moment when day and night blur into one another. Inspired by a vision of the hazy blue sky glimpsed in the predawn darkness of New York, CHENG brings this liminal experience to life in a haunting meditation on the weight of solitude.

The evening concludes with Beckoning, an internationally acclaimed work noted for its playful yet poetic interpretation of the Taiwanese street-dancing ritual of the Eight Infernal Generals. A meditation on the ever-evolving transformation of humanity, CHENG’s choreography unfolds in a mysterious zigzag of body language.

Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan will also present a free matinee performance for public school groups through Design for Sharing, our K-12 Arts Education Program.
